How the Pool Builder Works

Our free 3D tool lets you explore pool styles, customize shapes, finishes, water features, and decking — then see your creation rendered in real time.

Choose Your Starting Point

Six curated templates, each hand-built in 3D by our Head of Construction. The most popular? "Build My Own Pool" — chosen by 35% of users who want full creative control from the start.

Customize Every Detail

Modify the pool shape, choose from five finish colors, add water features like waterfalls and bubblers, and select your decking material. Every option reflects real products ASP installs.

See It in 3D

Every model was guided by Bram Schad to give you a realistic illustration — not generic stock renders. Rotate, zoom, & explore your design from every angle before committing.

Real 3D Models

See exactly what your pool will look like — before a single shovel hits dirt

Each model is built from Bram's experience. You'll still need to work with ASP to get a shovel-ready design and a final quote, but this tool was crafted by the team with care.

FROM SCREEN TO BACKYARD

See Your Pool in Your Actual Backyard

Love what you designed? The next step is a free yard visit. An ASP consultant comes to your property, measures your yard, evaluates grading and access, and models your pool design into your real backyard — with your home, landscaping, and property lines factored in.

Choosing the Right Pool Style for Your Home

Every backyard is different — and the right pool design depends on your home's architecture, your property's layout, how you plan to use the pool, and where you live. Here's what the data and our build experience tell us about each major design decision.

Rectangle Pools: The Timeless Classic

Rectangle pools account for 55% of all shapes chosen in the design tool — and for good reason. Their clean geometry complements Colonial, Ranch, Craftsman, and Contemporary home styles equally well. Rectangles make the most efficient use of narrow or structured lots, and their straight walls simplify construction, which can keep costs more predictable.

If you're building in a subdivision with setback requirements or a traditional neighborhood with defined architectural character, a rectangle pool almost always fits. They're also the natural choice for lap swimmers and sport-oriented homeowners who want consistent depth and sightlines.

Freeform Pools: Natural and Organic

Freeform shapes make up 34% of designs — popular with homeowners on larger or irregularly shaped properties where the pool can flow with the landscape rather than fight it. Curved edges, natural stone coping, and integrated landscaping zones make freeform pools feel like a natural extension of the yard.

We see the highest freeform adoption in coastal and subtropical markets — Florida, the Gulf Coast, and parts of the Carolinas — where outdoor living is year-round and the aesthetic leans tropical. If your property has mature trees, slopes, or natural features you want to work around rather than remove, a freeform layout gives you that flexibility.

Water Features: The Details That Matter

Waterfalls are the single most-requested feature at 24%, followed by bubblers (20%) and hot tubs (20%). What's interesting is the trend toward ambient, sensory features over dramatic ones — homeowners want the sound and texture of moving water more than they want a waterslide (7%) or diving board (7%).

Fire pits, at 18%, show that pool design is really outdoor living design. Homeowners aren't just thinking about what's in the water — they're designing the full experience around it. The combination of a waterfall with a fire feature is one of the most common pairings we see in finished builds.

Pool Finishes and the Colors Homeowners Love

Blue dominates — Dark Blue and Light Blue together account for 54% of all finish selections. This isn't surprising: blue finishes give the water that classic, inviting look that most people picture when they imagine a pool. Dark Blue (27%) creates a deeper, more dramatic water color, while Light Blue (27%) produces the bright, Caribbean look.

White finishes (20%) are gaining ground, especially among homeowners with contemporary or minimalist homes. Black (16%) is the bold choice — it creates a striking mirror-like effect and pairs beautifully with modern architecture. Tan and natural tones (11%) are regional favorites in desert and Mediterranean-style properties.

Decking: Completing Your Outdoor Space

The decking data shows a near four-way split: Concrete (23%), Grass (23%), Brick (20%), and Pavers (20%), with Wood at 15%. This diversity reflects regional and stylistic preferences more than any single trend — there's no dominant choice because the right decking depends entirely on your climate, home style, and maintenance preferences.

Concrete and pavers dominate in hot climates where cool-deck coatings matter. Brick is a Southeast staple that ties into Colonial and traditional architecture. Grass borders are increasingly popular with homeowners who want a natural, resort-like feel — especially around freeform pools. Wood decking works best in temperate climates where composite or hardwood can withstand the conditions.

From Digital Design to Your Backyard

The design tool is step one. It lets you explore, experiment, and get a feel for what resonates with you — without any pressure or commitment. Once you've designed something you love, the next step is a free yard visit where an ASP consultant evaluates your property, discusses your design, and creates a proposal tailored to your specific lot.

The yard visit is where the digital design becomes real: your consultant will factor in setbacks, grading, utility lines, existing landscaping, and access for construction equipment. Many homeowners find that the design they created in the tool translates directly to their final build — sometimes with minor adjustments for site conditions. That's by design: every option in the tool reflects real products and real construction methods that ASP uses every day.
