Why Homeowners Choose a Concrete Pool

Concrete pools are valued for lasting durability, limitless customization options, affordability, and ease of surface repair. They can accommodate custom shapes and dimensions, giving homeowners more control over how the pool relates to the home, pool deck, and surrounding outdoor areas.

Design decisions for a concrete pool can include:

• Pool shape and size: Choose a configuration based on the available space and how you plan to use it
• Depth configuration: Consider how the pool can accommodate recreation, relaxation, and family time
• Interior pool finish: Select the color, texture, and appearance of the pool interior
• Pool coping: Coordinate the material bordering the pool with the broader design
• Optional features: Explore lighting, water features, and the relationship between the pool and pool deck

Gunite Pools, Shotcrete & Pebble Surface Options

Gunite and shotcrete are two methods used to apply concrete during pool construction. Gunite combines the dry material with water at the application point, while shotcrete uses a mixture prepared with water before application. The right approach depends on the project and the builder’s construction method.

Homeowners can also consider a pebble surface made from river rock. This optional pool finish comes in multiple colors and patterns, offering another way to personalize the appearance of a concrete pool.

Custom Pool Design for Ponte Vedra Homes

Your custom pool design should reflect how you plan to use the backyard. A pool designed for recreational swimming may call for different dimensions and features than one centered on entertaining, quiet relaxation, or time with young family members.

Before discussing your project, consider:

• Who will use the pool most often
• How swimming, entertaining, and relaxation fit into your plans
• Which finish colors and patterns complement your home
• How much ongoing pool maintenance you’re comfortable managing
• Whether you’re considering a screen enclosure or other surrounding features

Architectural review requirements can vary among Nocatee neighborhoods. Before work begins, homeowners should confirm the requirements that apply to their pool, pool deck, screen enclosure, or other exterior improvements.
