Why Chattanooga Homeowners Choose Customizable Gunite Pools

When picturing a pool, many envision one made from concrete or gunite. These types of pools are popular for good reason: they offer a compelling blend of durability, design flexibility, and long-term value. Here’s why a concrete pool might be the right choice for your home:

Benefits of a concrete pool:

• Durability: Concrete pools are designed for long-term use when properly maintained.
• Endless Customization: Shape your pool to fit your backyard and personal style, from freeform designs to integrated spas and water features.
• Installation Value: Concrete can be a cost-competitive material for new pool construction, and resurfacing down the road is typically less expensive than many homeowners expect.
• Manageable Repairs: Surface repairs on concrete pools are generally straightforward, though actual costs vary based on the extent of wear and the finish chosen.

Properly maintained gunite pools can last over 20 years before needing resurfacing or replacement. The actual service life depends on construction quality, finish materials, usage, and how consistently the pool is maintained.

Customizable Concrete & Gunite Pools for Every Need

One of the best features of gunite pools is their flexibility. Unlike other materials, gunite allows for unique shapes and sizes, tailored to your aesthetic preferences. Design decisions can include depth zones, entry steps, built-in seating, pool coping, interior finishes, and optional pebble surfaces made from durable river rock in multiple hues and patterns.

Understanding gunite and shotcrete:

• Gunite: A dry concrete mix that is sprayed through a hose and mixed with water at the nozzle; it may be selected for its strength and cost considerations.
• shotcrete: A wet concrete mix that is fully combined before application, used in specific construction situations.

Both materials can be used to construct concrete pools. Our team at ASP - America's Swimming Pool Company of Chattanooga can explain the differences and discuss which option fits your needs in Chattanooga, TN.

Chattanooga Pool Planning: Codes & Safety Requirements

Before starting a concrete pool installation in Chattanooga, homeowners should plan around the city’s applicable building codes and any neighborhood or association guidelines for the property.

A few requirements worth knowing before you start:

• Pool Safety Barriers: Chattanooga requires a barrier at least 48 inches high around private pools containing water deeper than 24 inches. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching.
• Permits & Setbacks: Pool construction within Chattanooga city limits is subject to the city’s adopted building codes, including permitting, setback, electrical, and plumbing requirements. Homeowners should confirm the requirements for their property before construction begins.
• Neighborhood & Historic-District Review: Some properties may face additional review requirements from a homeowners association or historic-district authority.

Our Certified Pool Operators with the National Swimming Pool Foundation complete ASP - America's Swimming Pool Company of Chattanooga’s nationally recognized training program and undergo background checks before working in your home.
