Pool Resurfacing & Replastering in Houston

Houston’s Largest Pool Franchise, Locally Operated Since 2002

Houston’s long swim season, intense heat, and frequent storms put real strain on pool surfaces. Over time, the plaster or finish that protects your pool’s shell deteriorates from chemical exposure, age, and weather, leaving you with a surface that looks worn and feels rough underfoot. Pool Resurfacing & Replastering from ASP - America's Swimming Pool Company of Northwest Houston restores both the function and appearance of your pool so it’s ready for the seasons ahead.

We’re a locally operated location of the nation’s largest swimming pool franchise, backed by a network that has grown to over 250 locations in 22 states since 2002. Harris County homeowners get community-level service paired with the training, credentialing, and digital reporting systems of a national brand.

Ready to see what your pool could look like? We offer free inspections to assess your pool’s current surface condition. Call (281) 688-6491 to schedule yours and take the first step toward a refreshed pool.

Five Signs Your Pool Needs Resurfacing

Pool surfaces don’t fail overnight. Here are five conditions Houston homeowners commonly notice before calling us:

  • Flaking or peeling plaster: Sustained low pH or low calcium levels dissolve the calcium hydroxide in your plaster over time. Once peeling starts, patching won’t hold.
  • Surface stains: Copper, calcium, and organic matter from leaves or high-tannin plants leave stains that acid washing alone often can’t fully remove.
  • Roughness or etching: Low alkalinity and calcium levels carve lines and pits into the plaster. Depending on severity, treatment may involve sanding, acid washing, or chelation, which uses chemical agents to lift mineral deposits without aggressive abrasion.
  • Structural cracks: Shifts in surrounding concrete, decking, or coping can crack the pool shell. Small surface micro-cracks called crazing can also appear from construction in extreme heat or when refilling is delayed after a remodel.
  • Discoloration: Chemical imbalance causes gradual color changes. Construction errors, including wetting (adding water while troweling the plaster) or high alkalinity and calcium during application, can also leave lasting discoloration.

Houston’s extended swim season means heavier chemical use and more swimmer traffic than most markets, which accelerates the timeline to visible surface wear.

Plaster, Pebble & Concrete: Choosing the Right Surface

We offer three surface material categories, each with its own look, durability profile, and cost range. During your free consultation, one of our pool team members can walk you through the options and help you find the right fit for your style and budget.

  • Plaster: The traditional choice and the most affordable option. Plaster forms the protective barrier between your pool water and the concrete shell, and it directly affects water color and how sunlight reflects off the surface. White plaster, a mixture of white cement and white marble, remains a popular option for inground pools. Available in a range of colors.
  • Pebble: Made from smooth stones and round aggregates layered in cement, pebble finishes offer a 15- to 20-year lifespan on average and stand up well to chemical corrosion and staining. The upfront cost is higher than plaster, but long-term maintenance costs tend to be lower. A wide variety of color combinations is available.
  • Concrete: Durable and resistant to everyday wear. Concrete surfaces can be painted any color, and surface cracks can be repaired by sanding and re-pouring rather than full replacement.

We provide a range of colors and designs within each category. Browse our Before & After photos to see what different finishes look like in real pools.

Our 6-Step Pool Resurfacing Process

Every Pool Resurfacing & Replastering project follows the same structured process. Here’s what to expect:

  • Drain the pool: We check local Houston regulations for legal water disposal before draining to ensure the process meets municipal requirements.
  • Clean the surface: Pressure washing or acid washing removes algae, mineral deposits, and debris from the existing shell.
  • Prep the surface: We remove hollow spots and repair any cracks before applying new material. This step helps determine how well the finish holds over time.
  • Apply a bonding agent: A primer coat creates a strong bond between the prepared surface and the new finish material.
  • Apply the new surface: The selected material, whether Plaster, Pebble, or Concrete, is applied evenly across the pool interior.
  • Dry and refill: Depending on the surface type, refilling may begin right away or after a 1- to 3-day curing period. After refilling, pH rises quickly and water chemistry requires adjustment.

Throughout the project, our proprietary digital communication systems keep you informed of progress so you know where things stand. Certain extensive renovations may require permits in Houston, and we can handle those details for you.

Costs typically range from $10 per square foot to $12 per square foot of total interior area, though final pricing depends on your pool’s size, the surface material you choose, and local market factors. We can give you a clear picture during your free consultation.

The Best Time to Resurface a Pool in Houston

Fall and early winter are the ideal window for pool resurfacing in the Houston area. Your pool is already out of heavy rotation, and scheduling during cooler months means the new surface can be fully cured and ready before temperatures climb again in spring. Extreme heat can affect how surface materials set during curing, so cooler conditions can give your new finish a strong start.

Houston’s mild winters mean resurfacing can typically proceed year-round. The off-season advantage isn’t about weather restrictions. It’s about maximizing the time you get to actually use your pool.

Why Pool Resurfacing Is a Professional-Grade Project

Touching up a small crack or spot-treating a minor stain is a different job than resurfacing an entire pool. Full resurfacing involves draining, surface prep, precise mixing ratios, bonding agent application, and material layering. Errors in any of those steps, including inconsistent plaster thickness or off-ratio mixes, can result in rough texture, discoloration, or premature failure. DIY attempts frequently end up costing more to fix than hiring a professional from the start.

Our technicians use industry-grade equipment and don’t cut corners. When you hire ASP - America's Swimming Pool Company of Northwest Houston, you’re getting Certified Pool Operators who passed the National Swimming Pool Foundation CPO® exam, cleared background checks and drug screenings, and trained through the systems of the nation’s largest swimming pool franchise.
