When to Close Your Pool in Macomb County

Timing matters. The right window for pool closing in Macomb County is when water temperature drops to around 55 degrees, which typically lines up with cooler nights and falling leaves in October. Southeast Michigan’s first fall freeze can arrive earlier than expected, and waiting too long creates real problems. Leaves sitting in an open pool late in the season can clog the filtration system and make the entire closing harder. Watch the temperature, not the calendar.

What’s Included in Our Customizable Pool Closing Plans

We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Our customizable pool closing plans are built around what your pool actually needs. Here’s what those plans can include:

• Debris removal: Clearing all debris from the pool’s water, filter, and skimmer before the cover goes on
• Water level adjustment: Readjusting the water level to the appropriate winterization depth
• Winter chemical treatment: Testing water chemistry and adding winter chemicals, including algaecide, to help keep the water clean through the off-season
• Equipment draining: Draining equipment of excess water to help prevent freeze damage over the winter
• Winter cover installation: Inspecting and installing a winter cover to protect the pool until spring

Why Proper Pool Closing Protects Your Investment

A pool that isn’t closed correctly doesn’t just sit quietly through winter. Debris left in the water can promote algae growth, so by spring you may be dealing with a green pool instead of a clean one. Skipping the algaecide treatment or leaving equipment exposed to freezing temperatures can mean repairing or replacing vital components before you can swim again. Professional pool closing helps reduce that risk. Our technicians use industry-leading methods to help your pool come out of winter in good shape, which can keep your spring opening simpler and less stressful.
